seemed a little confused the first time I went, but I love this place.. love the location... love the dark ambiance (did I say that?)...  anyway, good eats.. (a little less than creative for me, but why not)...  the place works and the Clinton rocks man.. it rocks.

Clever Cycles   Mar 05
Category: Bike Shops
Neighborhood: Hosford-Abernathy
908 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
Portland, 97214
I went here to shop for gifts for family members... for anyone who likes bicycles or the culture in and of itself, this shop is seemingly magicial.  The bikes (many european) are gorgeous, the saddles (many made by Brooks) are works of art themselves... the location is great for what they sell and the people are all very kind.  They have great saddle bags, accessories and clothing!  Go there sometime just to check out the clothing!

Hot Lips   Jan 30
Category: Pizza
Neighborhood: Concordia
5440 NE 33rd Ave.
Portland, 97211
Good Za, but eat it quick... because depending on your toppings it can get saugy...  I love the owner's story, I love their branding, I love their locations and I love their mission as a company...  The pizza is good.  I actually love the ingrediants (they are fresh, organic and I believe locally grown if possible...) and the portions (pizza sizes) are great...  the only but is that you have to race home if you are picking it up... I mean race... I live about 20 blocks from this Concordia location and if we get the veggie or a pie with a lot of toppings it will be saugy pretty quick...  aside from this, their pizza is solid and I can back a local company with a good mission anytime!

New Seasons Market (Sellwood)   Jan 30
Category: Health Markets
Neighborhood: Sellwood
1214 SE Tacoma St.
Portland, 97202
and for that fact alone I like it... this isn't my backyard New Seasons, but it is one I hit for lunch on occassion when in the area.  The location is great and I suspect for residents of Sellwood close to perfect.  Like all New Seasons it just has great produce, great products, a good deli, etc. etc. etc.  As with all New Season however it suffers a bit from being a close in urban grocery whose time came when little land was available... what I am saying is that the parking (as with all of its sisters and brothers) is limited.  Overall, another great grocery store..  a rare 5 Star salute!

Mio Sushi (Hawthorne)   Jan 29
Category: Sushi Bars
Neighborhood: Richmond
3962 SE Hawthorne Blvd.

This is what I have to say about the Mio on Hawthorne.  I realize this is a great location, but I have been here twice and each time was an average experience in all regards.  The sushi is ok.  Not great.  and I have had great.  The service is ok, not great.  It is a killer spot for good quick sushi, but not the best sushi you will put in your mouth in my opinion.  I also need to point out that I reserve 4 and 5 stars for extremely good sushi.

Couldn't agree more with the need for this requirement.  Someone tell me how much tax payers pay for these multi-day rescue efforts?  I am saddened by any tragedy like this, but if they can be avoided by taking into account the options available then it seems shortsided to me to head up a mountain in the middle of the winter without a beacon device.  I SAY MAKE THEM REQUIRED!

I can't remember the name, but there is a place in Washington (about an hour out of PDX) where you take an old steam train through the forest to a place where you pick out your tree.  They load the trees on the train and then the train goes back to the depot it picked you up from!   Pretty epic.  The santa wasn't nearly as real as he could have been and the stop venue felt a bit like a hack.  Great time all around however!

Does anyone else out there own a Filson coat?  I can't say how perfect the gift is.  They last forever and even a bamboon would look good in one.  I love that Filson has one of their very few stores in Portland!  For people who want to offer their spouse, boyfriend or loved one something they will have and likely cherish forever buy them a wool shirt or coat!   Sorry Pendleton, I love you too!
