Break ins?

We unfortunately learned today that friends on the ridge had an intruder at 4:30 in the morning this past week. The guy threw a rock through the window to steal a laptop knowing all the time the owners were home...  Did he not think they would hear the breaking glass? I point this incident out because if these events seem to grow in number it may be worth speaking out about it more often.  I have been in Northeast for 4 years now and I admittingly don't think we have a neighborhood watch program... growing up in LA we had one on my block and seemingly every other... maybe it isn't necessary for our neighborhoods, but if these events occur with more frequency it may be worth creating one.  Anyone know about any recent break ins in close-in Northeast neighborhoods?

We live nearby and haven't heard of any break ins while people were sleeping.. although we will keep our ears out moving forward.

Doesn't the police department list a crime profile for neighborhoods?  I am in Vancouver but we get a yearly report with crimes indicated by type and location.  It's really helpful in determining if there is a pattern.  I should clarify that this report isn't sent to every home; it's made available to our neighborhood association and you get to see it if you happen to be at the meeting.  Do you all have neighborhood associations?  They can, if well run, make a huge difference.
