The Sip and Kranz that has been a staple (in my opinion) near Jamison Park is simply perfect when it comes to a hip, contemporary Coffee Shop.  Good wifi, comfy chairs, lots of light/windows, solid coffee and overall a really nice experience.  In my trips to S&K I have found that the service can be touch and go.  So prepare yourself for a wait if some of the younger girls are working. ;)

Literaly... I love this place!!  It is a landmark for pete sake!  The bar is classic, always humming, the theatre is  sweet and the fact you can drink beer and eat while watching a film is fantastic!  I don't know that I can think of a single complaint.  If you love the movies, love beer, love eating in the seated position and like to pay less than you would at another theatre, the Bagdad is it.

Cafe Castagna   Jun 09

I had the opportunity to eat lunch today.  Let me say that this opportunity doesn't present itself very often.  When it does, it may mean a subway sandwich, Chipotle burrito or something muhc more humble than a $11 burger. Castagna Cafe is very simple inside.  Understated, but very clean and polished.  The food was great, starting with the fresh bread.  I ended up trying the burger based on the fact it has been all the rave by seveler local publications.  They suggest you have it medium-rare which turned out to be a treat for a guy who tend to like things well-done.  The condiments were perfect, the beef tender, moist and well proportioned.  I also took in the fries which were of the shoestring variety, but sometimes curly or moist... I suspect this is because they are cut their daily or indicative of being freshly cut.  Anyway, the burger and fries at Castagna Cafe were great!  I recommend the cafe to folks looking for a more upscale lunch on the eastside!
Pros: Service, Location, Burgers!!!!

the pizza is good at Sparkys!  seriously, I don't think there is a better deal in town... local ingrediants, dough made fresh daily.. I love this za and go here often!!  20 bucks for two pies, breadsticks and a liter of pop is a way too good to pass up!

Mint   Apr 11

Neighborhood:
816 N Russell St.
Portland, 97227
this place is pretty sweet.. the layout is great.. lounge areas, lounge like tables, a killer bar (made of cement!), great high ceilings, old brick walls... and some of the better drinks I have had...  don't go for beer on tap... Stella and Amnesia are what you get... so dive into their foo foo menu of drinks... most of which are one word... "splash" "mint" etc... anyway, I then stayed for dinner moving to the other side of the building... which frankly felt like a bar with dining, vs a dining room.. but 6 Stellas in and I was thinking about that after a while.. the food was good.. the halibut was perfect, but it didn't come with any sides which I thought was odd.. the burger was great and came with some healthy sides... overall it was a great place to go on a Friday night.. and it doesn't hurt that I absolutely love this area of Russell!
