Oba   Mar 18
Category: Tapas Bars
Neighborhood: The Pearl
555 NW 12th Ave
Portland, 97209
Oba has been proving that (unlike its neighbor - Manzana and Palomino) a restaurant can survive on this block!  I have loved Oba for years.  I like the bar, the overall ambiance, the fact you can get back in the dining area and enjoy a more private meal....  I have been all over the menu, so I won't point out a specific item.. but I will say that you should go there for the drinks...

Grand Central Bakery & Cafe   Mar 13
Category: Bakeries
Neighborhood: Sellwood
7987 SE 13th Avenue
Portland, 97202
Grand Central may make my favorite sandwiches in Portland.  When it comes to their egg salad sandwhich I come away all smiles.  I love that I get a cookie or a bag of Kettle Chips when I order a sandwich at lunch.  I love the ambiance of this location, the fact (like all the others) it has outdoor seating and that this location offers their great baked goods south of Powell.

Sesame Donuts   Mar 11
Category: Donuts
Neighborhood: Raleigh Hills
6990 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy
Portland, 97225
This can't be disputed.... the donut holes from Sesame are the best in Portland!  Including the sesame ones.  I love them so much I am considering leaving my couch and computer to drive there now (9:41pm).  There isn't much to say other than this landmark in Raleigh Hills is integral to Portland's reputation for baked goods.

Backspace   Mar 11
Category: Coffee & Tea
Neighborhood: Old Town
115 NW 5th Avenue
Portland, 97209
My trips to backspace have been for grabbing coffee in the AM.  I haven't been here for a show, but that day will eventually come.  The service, the coffee, the pastries and the fact they have tons of space to spead out and work is great!  They also have solid WiFi.
Pros: Space, Coffee, WiFi
Cons: Parking

Nice new local album!  Have you heard it?  If so, share your thoughts! CPR and White Liars are pretty solid!

If "street food" is synonomous with food carts then I wouldn't know where to start.  Moxie, the Grilled Cheese, Tabor.... Koi Fusion, the list is long!

Hey there rosieposie!  If safest by way of statistics were to be the recommendation then you would probably find the suburban neighborhoods of Lake Oswego to be among the safest.  However when you also say best that is a whole other ball of wax.  As a realtor of 8 years I can tell you what my favorite neighborhoods are, but I would need a lot more to go on... example: do you want to walk to coffee/grocer, do you want to be close to public transportation, do you want to ride your bike places easily, etc.  do you prefer a commuter neighborhood, urban vs. suburban.. the list is long.  Portland's neighborhoods are diverse and you can find different aspects of livability in each.  If you throw out some more details there will plenty of direction I or others can offer!  Thanks!

I noticed in a local publication that a particular burger wasn't on the list of Portland's best burgers.  It has caused me to create this inquiry with other Portlanders about their favorite burger?  For me,,, Toro Bravo has the best burger I have ever had, but for a heavy burger, fries and some suds another one comes to mind which I am interested to see if others comment on.
