I agree that this place is definitely worth a visit. I’ve now been to this new Irvington location a handful of times and have had a positive experience on all occasions. The logistics first: The décor of the place is lovely (gray-blue soothing walls, dark wood, candles—it's great for a date or a nice evening out with family or friends), and the waitstaff are extremely friendly and attentive. Onto the food: The menu has a range of vegan and raw selections that offer options reflecting a number of food preferences. While the place is marketed as vegan, I have been there with my non-vegan friends and they have raved about it as much as I do. The restaurant is committed to fresh, local produce, makes good use of spices, and offers some creative twists on standard dishes.
One of my favorite dishes is the ‘Crispy Thai BBQ Salad’, which is mixed greens topped with curried cashews and Thai spiced BBQ soy curls. It’s topped with a creamy ginger dressed with toasted coconut. It’s a delicious mix of flavors and is a substantive meal (though I usually order a side of the cornbread to accompany it because that, too, is delicious). Some other interesting options include the ‘Live Nachos’ (tomato and walnut chips topped with a seasonal squash nacho cheese and taco crumbles, along with cashew sour cream and avocado sauce); rotating soup of the day; and a pasta dish made with almond mozzarella and sesame parmesan. I’m not usually a dessert person, but the one time I had a few bites of their carrot cake it was light, fully, and delicious. Sometimes vegan desserts are criticized as not being very rich in flavor—that was definitely not the case here.
I look forward to returning to this lovely addition to the Portland dining scene!
Pros: Vegan friendly, raw friendly, gluten-free friendly
First and foremost, this location is sweet! The building is beautiful, the layout of the restaurant is quaint and the fact it is part of the Irvington neighborhood is convienent. That said, the food was great! Tastes I have never had befer! A cheese lasagna that was rich, tasty and quick to fill my belly.. The service was solid and the advice and detail provided by our server was stellar! I like this place. ;)
Pros: location, ambiance, service (knowledge of food served)
