Saraveza   Feb 05
Category: Pubs
Neighborhood: Humbolt

Portland, 97217
Saraveza has excellent style.  The front seating area is lined with old timey refrigerators/coolers stocked with every type of bottled beer from the US and beyond.  The bar has a nicely rotating tap and the kitchen a penchant for midwestern fare.  Midwestern/Great Lakes origins are obvious in the decorations, specifically Wisconsin.  They have multiple Schlitz beer ornaments and statues that fit nicely with the design of the booths, the tables and space in general.  All in all it feels easy inside.  It's not too loud but still very social.  Go for the beer, first and foremost.  The food is tasty and quite unique.  Stay for the vibe.
Pros: beer, people, aesthetic, the whole package
Cons: closed on Tuesday

If it is an abundance of food you desire, Gravy will not disappoint.  But "abundance" is an over simplification.  The servings are large but the flavor is enormous.  From the simplest short stack of cakes to the Greco scramble (even better as a combo), Gravy will satisfy any and all morning food desires.  On a nice Sunday morning the mass of people waiting outside rivals most concerts.  It's in high demand for good reason.
Pros: Great food and selection of food, wonderful service, comfortable ambiance.
Cons: Not for those in a hurry on weekends

The 5th Quadrant is a very frequent stop on the dining list.  The combination of solid beer selection, food and ease of access via bike (with new bike racks out front!) makes for an easy choice.  I'll never tire of the proletariat red Ale or the Lompoc Strong Draft.  The food is always good.  A typical choice is the 5Q salad with chicken.  The large is large, usually enough for two.  The roasted beets are a great touch.  Their burger is top notch and high on the list of best in town.  Tuesdays are for "tightwads" with $2.50 pints all day.  Expect a crowd.  Wednesday is trivia night, also well attended.  The Pseudo outdoor seating in the patio is comfy all year long and when the weather is right the picnic tables out front make for great bike traffic watching.  The booths have a cool divider for more or less privacy.   A great stop for a pint, either alone or with a burger and wonderful fries.
Pros: Beer, food, happy hours, ambience

There are a few regular rides leaving from NE PDX.  The main one leaves from Wilshire Park at 6pm on Tuesdays.  27 miles at 18mph or so.  It's a ride with the Portland Wheelman Touring Club.  They also do a Thursday night ride from Wilshire Park at 6pm.   www.pwtc.com.
